All of us interact with music daily, whether passively when we hear music playing at the store while we shop, or actively when we choose to listen to music or play an instrument. This course is designed to help you explore the history of musical compositions and the ideas mankind has had concerning music itself. What is it? Where did it come from? What is its purpose? Participants will read about developments both musically and philosophically, listen to music by major western composers, and wrestle with questions regarding the implications for our music consumption in modernity.
